Blogging Pays Off in Unexpected Ways
If I were to make a list of all of the benefits of blogging, I wouldn't have put free symphony tickets on the list. However, that's exactly what happened to me. Last night I was given free tickets to attend the world premier of "Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz", a multimedia performance featuring the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Ron McCurdy jazz quartet, and Ice T reading the Langston Hughes poem. The only provision to gettng the free tickets was that I had to blog about my experience.
Am I a professional music reviewer? No. Am I an authority on the works of Langston Hughes? No. Am I an expert on jazz? Once again, no. However, I was given the opportunity to attend the performance along with 4 other people just like me. Why? Because we could offer our perspective on the performance.
Each of us has our perspectives, insights, and thoughts that we can offer to each other. If you don't feel comfortable writing your own blog, then start by leaving a comment on someone elses. Who knows? One of these days you may receive an opportunity to attend an event for free if you're willing to share your thoughts.
